The American Cinematheque is set to give its top honor to Michael B. Jordan.
Jordan as an actor, director and producer will be honored with the 39th American Cinematheque Award on Nov. 20 during a gala ceremony in Beverly Hills. American Cinematheque board chair Rick Nicita, while announcing the selection, said in a statement, “the career of Michael B. Jordan has been an unparalleled showcase for the combination of superb talent and purposeful vision that has made him a major power in today’s movie business.”
Jordan had early roles in Friday Night Lights and Parenthood and a 2013 breakout performance in Fruitvale Station. He then rose in Hollywood with star turns in Black Panther and three Creed movies, including his directorial debut Creed 3.
“He has become a prolific producer with multiple projects across our business and his philanthropic activities are many and wide-ranging. Most recently, his outstanding performances (yes, two performances) in the worldwide smash Sinners have cemented his place in the upper tier of movie stars, now and in the future. The American Cinematheque is proud to present the 39th American Cinematheque Award to Michael B. Jordan,” Nicita said on Wednesday.
Jordan playing twins in Sinners marked his fifth collaboration with Ryan Coogler. He is set to direct and star in The Thomas Crown Affair. And Jordan’s production company, Outlier Society, has projects in development with Amazon, Paramount and Tri-Star.
Jordan joins previous American Cinematheque Award winners like Spike Lee, Ryan Reynolds, Reese Witherspoon, Ridley Scott, Amy Adams, Helen Mirren and, last year, Jessica Chastain.
The American Cinematheque Awards will take place at The Beverly Hilton as an annual fundraiser for the non-profit backing year-round programming at the Aero Theatre in Santa Monica, the Los Feliz 3 Theatre in Los Feliz and the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood.
